Palliative care from chronic diseases point of view involves end-stage renal failure, advanced respiratory diseases, any Cancer not (benign cancer). And chronic heart diseases, neurological dysfunction to mention a few. These group of patients may still have active treatments, and possible resuscitation status (CPR), compared to a terminal disease, where treatment is a seal or withdrawn and bears "Do Not Resuscitate" (DNR) status.

There is a home care package in the community, speak to your local GP, and this package can also be arranged for you while admitted at the hospital.

Palliative care cannot immediately be deemed to be the end of life. Palliative care means a "chronic life-limiting illness". The illness can progress to become terminal and therefore will need end of life care, for how long? Nobody knows for sure.

You can have palliative care while having treatments — treatment at the hospital or in the community. Palliative care helps individuals to cope with aggressive treatments by getting pain, anxiety, depression and stress under control and helps to fight the disease in question. Palliative care gives time for discussions, plans, just in the event of the illness becoming terminal and leading to end of life.
